In various places and at various times, Xuma – with an X or a Z – has been the name of a classic Neil Young album, an Aztec god and a Californian beach. Since summer 2006, it has also been the name of the Seven Dials’ most characterful bar. Combining gallery and drinking haunt, it’s a warm and atmospheric environment, with red velvet seating surrounded on all sides by paintings and photography, much of it locally produced; there is also a second, more intimate seating area downstairs. They offer a snack menu (soup, paninis etc) and various cocktails and host regular live music nights as well as midnight poetry readings and lively exhibition launches every six weeks.
